HHS Sec Tries to Sell ‘Door to Door’ Vaccination Outreach But Makes It Even Worse

The Biden team sparked a huge backlash when White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki spoke about sending people “door to door” in an outreach to “get remaining Americans vaccinated.” Not surprisingly, Americans view suspiciously the idea of government operatives showing up at your door, trying to tell you what to do about your own health care.

Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra didn’t make things any better when he was asked about the policy on CNN today. He was asked to respond to the criticism that it’s none of the government’s business who is or isn’t vaccinated, and in his response Becerra said the quiet part out loud, revealing just how much the Democrats think they have a right to control and dictate to people.

Becerra said that the government had spent “trillions” to keep Americans alive during the pandemic. “So it is absolutely the government’s business, it is taxpayers’ business if we have to continue to spend money to try to keep people from contracting COVID and helping reopen the economy,” Becerra argued.

CNN’s Brianna Keilar asked what the administration was going to do to get more aggressive to get people vaccinated.

“We want to give people the sense that they have the freedom to choose,” Becerra said. “We hope people make the right choices. We want them to have the right information, but we are America. We try to give people as much freedom and choice as possible, but clearly, when over 600,000 Americans have died, the best choice is to get vaccinated.”

No, it is not the government’s business, and Becerra’s comments demonstrate that he has a basic misunderstanding about the proper relationship between the American government and its citizens. My private health care is none of the government’s business. What nerve too, to suggest that if we pay tax to the government that then that means they have a right to know our private health decisions or in any way dictate to us.

He makes it even worse with the rest of what he says. “We want to give people the sense that they have the freedom to choose” and “We try to give people as much freedom of choice as possible but…the best choice is to get vaccinated.” No, my freedom is NOT given by the government. It is given by God, enshrined in the Constitution. You don’t get to dictate what my choices are. The fact that he seems to think they “give” it to us, is a failure to understand the rights of Americans.

Sec. Becerra’s attitude is dangerously authoritarian.

COVID risk doesn’t justify this level of aggression by the federal government, and this is a precedent we should vehemently oppose setting.

It’s brilliant to create vaccines and great to OFFER vaccines. Not to COMPEL them. https://t.co/u7QppF1zPV

Yeah no, it’s none of the government’s damn business, and that was our money, not theirs. https://t.co/0aGGbLMcMY
